There are a great many Pynchon resources online. Here are a few favorites:

Pynchon Work Online

  • “The Deadly Sins / Sloth: Nearer My Couch to Thee”: Pynchon’s brilliant, hilarious and insightful investigation of Sloth in America, its history and its future, published in the New York Times on June 6, 1993.
  • Review of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera : Pynchon’s review of this amazing novel was published in the New York Times on April 10, 1988.
  • “Is It O.K. To Be A Luddite?”: Pynchon, in this article published in the New York Times on Oct 28, 1984, casts a skeptical eye on the Computer Age…
  • “A Journey Into The Mind Of Watts”: Published in the New York Times on June 9, 1966.
  • Annotated Full Text of The Crying of Lot 49 : This site — Genius.com — is pretty cool.
  • Liner Notes for Spiked! The Music of Spike Jones : Informative, humorous and insightful, Pynchon’s liner notes for this classic collection of Spike Jones’ music are a great read.
  • Liner Notes for Lotion’s 1996 CD Nobody’s Cool : Pynchon’s liner notes are brief and as much about New York City as the Lotion CD, but it’s classic Pynchon, a tidbit.

  • Pynchon Notes: Edited by John Krafft, Bernard Duyfhuizen and Khachig Tölölyan, this (ir)regularly published scholarly journal features excellent writings on Pynchon’s work. It’s been around since the 1970s and better than ever.

  • Thomas Pynchon Home Page: Penny Padgett at Pomona College, in Claremont, California, established what was likely the first website dedicated to Pynchon. It hasn’t changed much since 1995.
  • When Thomas Pynchon is just Tom: A remarkable collection debuts: The late Phyllis Gebauer was a longtime friend of Pynchon. When she donated her collection of Pynchon signed books and memorabilia to the UCLA Extension Writers Program, the Los Angeles Times covered the invitation-only event.

About ThomasPynchon.com

ThomasPynchon.com (formerly the HyperArts Pynchon Pages) came online in 1997. With the publication of Against the Day in 2007, the alphabetical guides to Pynchon's novels were migrated to the Pynchon Wikis.

This website is affiliated with neither Mr Pynchon nor his representatives; rather, it's aligned with the community of folks who enjoy reading Pynchon's work — and digging deeper.

About the Webmaster

ThomasPynchon.com was designed and developed, and is maintained, by Tim Ware, a musician and composer, fan of great literature, owner of HyperArts, lover of all things tiki, and an Oakland, California, resident. You can reach him via the contact form on this website.
